Russian Tourist Flow to Egypt Dropped 3% in 2013
In 2013 Egypt was visited by 2.5 million Russians, which constituted a quarter of the country's foreign tourist flow, said Egypt's ambassador to Russia Mohamed Elbadri at a press conference devoted to the opening of Intourmarket travel fair.
"The Egyptian unrest of 2013 hardly, if at all, affected the Russian tourist flow to the country," he said. “There was only a 3% drop, which can be explained by the measures that the authorities are taking to guarantee the safety of tourists on all the Red Sea resorts and in Luxor.”
The ambassador also added that this summer a president will be elected in Egypt. “I hope that it will make the unrest subside, which in turn will lead to the Russian tourist flow growing again,” he said.
Egypt is the partner country of the travel fair ‘Intourmarket’, which will take place in IEC ‘Crocus Expo’ on March 15-18. Among the participants are 16 Egyptian companies, 5 of which will be representing the tour operator business and the rest – the hotel business.
